The Writers Circle: Holidays and Celebrations

TWC
One of our goals here at Today’s Author is to help all of the writers among us to do what we love to do: write. One of the best ways to accomplish this is by talking to each other and learning from each other.  Our Writers Circle series is designed to do just that – provide a chance for us to discuss writing, editing and publishing questions.

This week’s topic is:

Do holidays and celebrations play a big role in any of your stories?  Do you stick with well-known, modern holidays or do you create new ones to fit the universe of your story? When creating a new holiday, do you follow any specific rules in terms of defining the day’s meaning, festivities and focus?

Let’s discuss this in the comments and see what our community thinks.

  1. I do have a work in progress that will “re-invent” some holidays and special occasions. I’ve done a bit research on how some current holidays evolved. Generally, I think about the history of the world I am building and build out a history for the holiday using models of current holidays.
