One of our goals here at Today’s Author is to help all of the writers among us to do what we love to do: write. One of the best ways to accomplish this is by talking to each other and learning from each other. Our Writers Circle series is designed to do just that – provide a chance for us to discuss writing, editing and publishing questions.
This week’s topic is:
Do holidays and celebrations play a big role in any of your stories? Do you stick with well-known, modern holidays or do you create new ones to fit the universe of your story? When creating a new holiday, do you follow any specific rules in terms of defining the day’s meaning, festivities and focus?
Let’s discuss this in the comments and see what our community thinks.
I do have a work in progress that will “re-invent” some holidays and special occasions. I’ve done a bit research on how some current holidays evolved. Generally, I think about the history of the world I am building and build out a history for the holiday using models of current holidays.
