One of our goals here at Today’s Author is to help all of the writers among us to do what we love to do: write. One of the best ways to accomplish this is by talking to each other and learning from each other. Our Writers Circle series is designed to do just that – provide a chance for us to discuss writing, editing and publishing questions.
This week’s topic is:
Traveling can be extremely rewarding on many levels, but it can present some unique challenges for writers. Whether it’s a business trip or a family vacation, writing schedules can be disturbed, privacy can be limited and available time can be hard to find. How do you handle writing while traveling? Do you continue to work on your work-in-progress? Do you work on side projects? Do you write about your travels? Do you do something else?
Discuss this topic here in the comments or head on over to the forums to start or engage in a more thorough discussion.
Hi 🙂 when I know I’d be travelling, I usually do some posts in advanced and schedule them so that they are posted on the days when I’m away. I don’t write while travelling but when I come back, I write about my experience. Cheers for now and have a lovely week everyone!
I don’t travel that often and when I do it’s normally for a vacation so I don’t write on the road. I will have a few posts written ahead of time that scheduled to post while I am away. I will take photos and collect information about my trip so I can write about it when I return.
OK, you said pretty much what I was going to. I’ll add: I do try out mobile writing options because my other hat is as a tech geek so I figure I should know how all these things work. I much prefer writing from my office.
For me, most things get put on hold when I travel. However, I will take the time with a finished draft to do some editing. This is only if I have a complete draft of a story, no matter which daft version it is.
At this point, my writing “schedule” is laughable at best. I intend to write whether on vacation or at home and it just doesn’t happen. I hope that will change during my upcoming vacation, but I’m not going to hold my breath on that.
That said, I’ve written about my travels in the past. I used to have this on a separate blog but merged it into my regular blog several years ago. My goal in these blog posts was to save some of the more-random memories we might lose but also to just explain my unhealthy hatred of travel. I haven’t done this in a couple years…maybe I’ll restart it this year.
