One of our goals here at Today’s Author is to help all of the writers among us to do what we love to do: write. One of the best ways to accomplish this is by talking to each other and learning from each other. Our Writers Circle series is designed to do just that – provide a chance for us to discuss writing, editing and publishing questions.
This week’s topic is:
With the holiday season upon us, thoughts turn to gifts for us or for our loved ones. What do you, as a writer, wish someone would give you as a gift this holiday season? What are you planning to give to the writers on your gifting list?
Let’s discuss this in the comments and see what our community thinks.
I have a few editing and genre-specific writing books on my list. I think that would make a wonderful gift.
Which books, Sam?
On my list now are BIRD BY BIRD by Anne Lamott, WRITING AND SELLING THE YA NOVEL by K.L. Going, MERCHANTS OF CULTURE by John B. Thompson, WRITING YOUNG ADULT FICTION FOR DUMMIES by Deborah Halverson, and WILD INK by Victoria Hanley.
Ooh, I haven’t read any of those. I love writing books.
Bird by Bird is on my list as well. And now the Writing Young Adult Fiction might be there, too 🙂
Let’s stipulate that world peace and universal love are at the top of the list, followed by sixteen other emotional pleas for goodness, understanding, and compassion.
Then comes visits from my children. Yeah, that might even be above world peace.
Next–good luck. Well, in the absence of miracles, I’ll settle for luck.
My first materialistic gift is a puppy. Oh, I wish… I have a dog who’s attached to my husband. I want my own pet.
That’s it.
This is a great list! I hope your children come for a nice long visit, and bring a puppy!
Wait – I thought Casey was attached to me!
Forget world peace for the moment. Just give me peace and quiet, no interruptions, no distractions and someone to cook my meals for me and make me the occasional cup of coffee. Come to think of it, world peace sounds a lot easier 🙂
Hehe. Don’t it, though.
What I want: a time travel machine so I can visit my newest grandchild who lives a thousand long miles away. A magic pill to heal my mom. More time to write. An agent who will fall in love with my books and plead with me to publish.
But really, I want world peace and food enough to feel the hungry and medicine for the ill and compassion sufficient to treat everyone with respect and a way to fix the ozone…..same as everyone else wants.
Anybody listening?
The President is.
