At Today’s Author, our first goal is to get you (and us) to write. Write Now is our own collection of prompts to help you do that. With Write Now we’re not talking about writing, or trying to teach anyone how to write. Write Now is all about putting pen to paper.
Today’s Prompt:
Colin awoke to find an unkindness of ravens filling the lawn, and a single raven perched expectantly on the front porch.
How to play along with our Writing Prompts
- Write in any format or style you wish: short story, poem, script – whatever you like.
- Write for at least 5 minutes. There is no time limit – write for as long as you wish!
- Editing is not required, though we do recommend that you run a spell check at least.
- Post your work to your blog and include a link back here so your readers can find other writer’s work, too.
- Come back here and provide a link to your work on the Write Now! prompt for which it was written.
- Read other authors’ posts and leave constructive comments.
Important Note: When you post a draft of your work online, it may be difficult to find a publisher who will accept it, as many see an online document as being previously published. It may also be ineligible to be submitted for certain writing competitions. Always check publisher’s and competition guidelines before using a draft you put online.
Here is my response to today’s writing prompt. Please let me know what you think.

Ha! This will be fun!
Okay! Here we go 🙂 http://starvingactivist.wordpress.com/2013/02/01/write-now-prompt-for-february-1-2013-nevermore/
Oh yes, I’ve scrubbed a few flowers off a plate or two in my time…
So I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t been able to make time to write. But I think I’m *supposed* to write for this prompt because…
I left the house early this morning to run some errands. When I returned, I found my front yard covered in big, black birds. They were in the grass, in the street, in the giant 80+ year old oak next to my house… and there was one on my front porch.
Now, I know they were crows and not ravens, but the two are related. So, it would seem the universe was telling me I have to try to write for this prompt! Guess I’ll add it to the to-do list.
OK, I’m back. And I’m really pleased with this one –

I’m going to promote it while the game is going on. Let’s see, if half the people who watch the game read my poem, I’ll have like,…. a whole lot of views.
